Here we see Patrick Depallier at the wheel of his Tyrrell, in the pit area of the Long Beach Grand Prix in California during qualifying. The design of this vehicle was one of the weirdest concepts in the history of the sport--4 small wheels in the front and 2 normal size wheels in the back. This design did not catch on and didn’t run for very long, but because it is so distinctive, it definitely represents a certain moment in time in the racing world. It's been quite a ride (so to speak) documenting the changing trends in the sport over all these years.
